Understanding Anxiety – And How Hypnosis & Psychotherapy Can Help
Is anxiety running your life and you don’t know why? You are not alone, many of my clients experience anxiety as a constant unwanted companion. You feel it in your body and in your mind and it bubbles up when you don’t need it, while driving, pitching an idea or even just making dinner. It’s your body and mind trying to protect you—even when there might be no real visible danger. So it is understandable that you ask Why me? What is wrong with me? Why now? Why doesn’t it go away? There is nothing wrong with you.
In therapy we explore the why but you can also do a couple of things before therapy to help you or maybe you have done it already and you know you are not alone and that there is a way out of being stuck. A bit of research can also help you understand a little bit more and that anxiety might have a message for you, it is the message that answers your why.
What is Anxiety?
At its core, anxiety is the body's natural response to stress—a survival mechanism designed to keep us alert and prepared in the face of danger. But for many, this response becomes overactive, firing even when there’s no real threat.
Anxiety can show up as:
Constant worry or overthinking
Physical symptoms (tight chest, rapid heartbeat, digestive issues)
Trouble focusing or sleeping
A sense of being “on edge”
Avoidance of situations or people that feel overwhelming
It can be generalized, or connected to specific triggers like social situations, health fears, or performance at work. Over time, unmanaged anxiety can impact our relationships, productivity, creativity, and wellbeing. Anxiety also often occurs with the need to control.
How Hypnosis Can Help - It answers the Why
Hypnotherapy works by accessing the subconscious mind—the part of us where patterns, habits, and emotional memories live. In a safe and relaxed state (not sleep or mind control!), the body is calm and the mind is more open to suggestion and insight.
Through hypnosis, you can:
Gently uncover the root causes of anxiety
Reframe thought loops and internal beliefs that fuel anxious responses
Activate the body’s natural relaxation response
Create new mental patterns that support calm, clarity, and confidence
It’s not about “fixing” you—it’s about helping your mind and nervous system remember what safety feels like.
Psychotherapy Complements the Process
While hypnosis works with the subconscious, psychotherapy offers space to explore anxiety through conscious reflection, dialogue, and insight. Talking with a trained therapist can help you:
Understand emotional triggers and patterns
Learn skills for emotional regulation and grounding
Process past experiences contributing to current stress
Rebuild your sense of agency and self-trust
Together, hypnosis and psychotherapy create a powerful pathway: one that works with both your conscious awareness and deeper inner landscape.
What if there would be no anxiety?
Take a moment and think about what if …. there would be no anxiety? How would that feel like? What would you do? Bring your thoughts to your therapy session, it is a great starting point.
You’re Not Alone—and You Don’t Have to Stay Stuck
If anxiety is taking up too much space in your life, you deserve support. There is no shame in asking for help. In fact, it’s one of the most powerful things you can do.
When you work with a practitioner who holds space for both your emotional and physiological experience, you begin to shift not just how you think, but how you feel and function in the world.
If you’re curious about how hypnotherapy and psychotherapy can support your mental and emotional wellbeing, I’d love to talk.
